Basham Blows Up Internet, 13-Year-Old Preacher Killed, Gateway Turmoil, Is JD Vance Weird?

Here are a few things you need to know from the last few days.

1 - Megan Basham ‘Shepherds For Sale’ Book Sparks Controversy

Megan Basham’s book, Shepherds For SaleShepherds for Sale: How Evangelical Leaders Traded the Truth for a Leftist Agenda, was released this week, and has taken the Christian internet world by storm.

Naturally we love it, and consider it to be an essential resource documenting how leftwing money managed to cause multiple big name individuals and organizations in the evangelical world to move to the left. Of course, individuals on the other side of the equation such as Justin Taylor of The Gospel Coalition and apologist Gavin Ortlund have taken umbrage, accusing Basham of misrepresentation.

She has pushed back on those claims, linking to various videos and quotes in question with her typical journalistic rigor, and reportedly plans a fuller response.

Big name evangelicalism, being the target of this book, will likely scour it for minor perceived inconsitencies more than any other book of the last decade. Anyone wondering what stance to take on this, we’d recommend actually reading the book.

2 - 13 Year Old Preacher Killed During Robbery

Thirteen year old Matthiew Stavkovy, known at his local church in Washington as ‘a budding preacher, singer and musician’ according to the Christian Post, was mourned by his family and church community on Sunday, two weeks after being fatally shot in the back during a robbery.

Matthiew was killed after attending the sale of a camera as he accompanied his 15-year-old sister and a friend.

Eighteen year old Faysal Abdullahi has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery for allegedly setting up the deal using online marketplace OfferUp.

3 - Gateway Church Turmoil Continues as Morris’ Son Steps Down

James Morris, son of Gateway Church founder Robert Morris, stepped down as senior pastor of the church last week. His father stepped down just weeks prior from the role after an apparent child sex abuse scandal, and James had been installed to lead the church in the aftermath.

However the elders released a statement saying, “"Earlier this week, the (church) elders met with Pastors James and Bridgette and they collectively made the decision that Pastors James and Bridgette would both step down from their current positions and from leading Gateway Church in the future," according to the Christian Post.

Author Max Lucado and Swedish Pastor Joakim Lundqvist will share pastoral responsibilities in the interim.

4 - JD Vance, Normal Man, Called Weird By Party Of Furries

Republican Vice Presidential nominee, JD Vance, has been under attack by prominent Democrats recently, with them repeatedly describing him using the term ‘weird’.

This coordinated messaging seemed to commence with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who called Trump and Vance “just weird” in an MSBNC interview last week. The following day, multiple news releases from the Harris campaign described Vance using the same term, followed up by Senators Brian Schatz and Chris Murphy, and multiple major news outlets have picked up on the trend.

One wonders if the party that promotes cross-dressing generals, transgender health officials and providing hormone treatment to children has ever come across the concept of irony.
