The Battle for Gender Identity: A Call to Action
Today’s American culture has increasingly tolerated, accepted, and even celebrated perversion in relation to gender ideology, an idea which conflicts with the natural, God-ordained structure of biology. Matt Walsh, a popular conservative voice of reason, posed a question that continues to echo through lecture halls, debate stages, social media outlets and just about anywhere else where ideologies collide. This question has been posed to well-educated college professors, to women’s rights activists, to students, leaving many grasping for answers in a dogmatic system that lacks substance and any sort of biological data.
This question causes those influenced by radical liberalism to attempt a number of potential answers. Circling the wagons is one, where the group calls whoever asked the question names. Another is to regurgitate false information. Some don’t answer the question at all. And usually the best answer given by the ‘woke liberal machine’ is a circular definition, stating something like, "a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman." For those interested in a logical answer to a logical question, such a response raises further questions: How can one feel like a woman if they cannot define what a woman is?
It is disheartening to see such a blatant attempt to rob identity from those who truly are women. The common-sense answer to such a deep, philosophical question is in fact very simple: If you are born with female anatomy and have XX chromosomes, you are a woman. Furthermore, this is the only path to womanhood.
Now, of course, anyone who takes such an audacious stance must be angry, bigoted, hate-filled, transphobic, and closed-minded, right? Well, no, actually. Our youngest generations are headed for disaster, and those who hold to God-given gender roles are the kind of people with the common sense needed to bring a course correction.
Transgenderism truly is a multifaceted attack on God’s order of creation. In the beginning, man and woman were created and fashioned in the image of God. He then brought them together under His ordained covenant of marriage and called it good. Now, both gender roles are under attack. Men and women are deceived, have lost their identity and are living in a state of confusion, believing the lie that their sexual identity can somehow be different from that which was ‘assigned to them’ at birth. Sadly, the trend over the last twenty years has revealed what happens when society, instead of working to lovingly correct a problem, begins to accept delusion as fact.
There is shocking data to confirm that transgenderism has been on a rapid rise, especially among teens. It should come as no surprise, given the grooming of children towards such an idea. The effects of these actions often begin to bear fruit in the early stages of adolescence. A 2017 study concluded that 1.4% of teens between 13-17 years old identify as transgender. In another study, Kacie Kidd, an adolescent medicine fellow at the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Adolescent & Young Adult Health, found that 9.2% of 3,168 children surveyed said their gender identity did not fully align with the sex assigned at birth. This percentage includes not just those who strictly identify as trans, but also those who identify as genderqueer and non-binary. This ideology has now infected an entire generation.
Over the last decade or two, society has moved across a continuum, starting with merely tolerating this sin to acceptance, into validation, and now the cycle is completed with active participation in this identity confusion. It is the current and future generations who are most impacted by the overcorrection that began as tolerance. It has given way to indoctrination, teaching children and young adults that there is celebration and acceptance for you as long as you believe a lie that you are something other than what God has created you to be.
I’m not writing this merely as information, but also a reminder to readers: if you desire to see change, you must be a part of the answer. What are we supposed to do when it feels as though we are witnessing a battle that cannot be won? How do we gain traction to change the tide of a society that is sliding down gutters into moral decay? There are action steps every reader can take to be a part of producing change.
First, remember your battle is not against flesh and blood.
Therefore, people and the representatives of this community are not your battle. There is a spiritual foundational component at work. This demonic assignment is set to confuse people and rob them of their identity. Remember to point your efforts against the spiritual forces at work, for victory is birthed in the Spirit.
Secondly, pray!
Pray as one who believes God’s Word when it says in James 5:16, "The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective." Prayer is not a last resort; prayer is the tip of the spear in the realm of the spirit. When your prayer is aligned with God’s will, miracles happen.
Be informed.
You have a duty to be aware and gather information regarding what is happening in the world around you. An ostrich with its head in the sand is still subject to the happenings of the environment around him; he just may not see it coming. The same could be said for anyone who chooses blissful ignorance in a time such as this. The only thing necessary for Satan’s agenda to triumph is for those created in God’s image and redeemed through the work of the cross to think they are accomplishing something great by complaining while doing nothing.
Unite and do something!
Find others who are praying, working, and mobilizing efforts to challenge and bring change where it is desperately needed. Get connected with ministries that are working to protect the innocence of children amidst the enemy's attempts to corrupt their minds and steal their identity. Begin a work in your church, small groups, or men’s and women’s ministries. Be resourceful; find places where this agenda of perversion is being pushed, promoted, and celebrated in order to take bold stands of righteousness to push back the gates of hell and destruction.
And finally, be encouraged.
God has sovereignly appointed you to be a beacon for the generation in which you live.. He has chosen you, trustworthy of His calling to protect the innocent. God has graciously set you apart to be the salt and light that this world desperately needs. You are alive for a time such as this. Now, let’s go do something.
