Thanks for this article. I can affirm most of what you've written except for your first principle, "do not...compare Jesus laying down his life for us as justification for Christians to give up their rights." Scripture encourages believers to do this very thing in 1 Peter 2:20-23:

"For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. 21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth"; who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously."

Our civil rights are indeed given by God and governments who take them away violate the commandment of God. But Christians are nonetheless told by the apostles that we are called to suffer injustice from those who wield power over us unjustly. We do this precisely because Christ did the same when he suffered for sins. A preacher can preach on the sacredness of our God-given rights and prophetically call on our government to repent of its tyranny while at the same time encouraging the people of God that their suffering injustice, if they suffer innocently, is commendable before God and will result in good for Christ's kingdom (1 Peter 1:12, 4:14).
