When Words Fail

Job loss, prodigal children, broken relationships, health issues, a nation seemingly on the brink… there is always something vying to steal our peace and hope. Have you ever felt desperate, scared, or worried and tried to pray, but found yourself at a loss for words –unsure of what to ask God for, or how to even begin? If so, you're not alone! This week's sermon at Redemption Church offers help and hope as we dive into Romans 8:26-27. 

We’ve learned so much in our sermon series on Romans 8, from there being NO condemnation in Christ or room for neutrality to the inevitability of suffering and how we can be anchored in hope. Now we reach one of the most comforting yet complex passages in this chapter. "Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”  Romans 8:26-27 

Think about that for a moment… 

The Holy Spirit, God Himself, groans on our behalf. In our most desperate moments, when words fail us, the Spirit is there –interceding with profound expressions that transcend human language. It's a powerful reminder that we are not alone in our struggles. When life gets hard, messy, or uncertain, our groanings are shared by the Spirit who knows exactly what we need.
