Say WHAT?!

Romans 8:31 boldly asks, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” In this verse, Paul begins a series of questions designed to embolden believers with the confidence that comes from understanding profound Truth. These questions invite us to pause and reflect, and the answers reveal the beauty of the Gospel.

In week 9 of our Romans 8 series, we can look back to see and consider what "these things" refer to:

  • We, in Christ Jesus, are no longer condemned.
  • We have an unshakeable hope.
  • The Holy Spirit helps us pray when words fail us.
  • God is orchestrating everything for our good.
  • God, who exists outside of time, has a perfect plan –from our birth to our glorification.

Paul’s rhetorical question, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” doesn’t suggest we won’t face adversaries. Rather, it underscores that no enemy can compare to the power and support God offers His children. The enemy –who seeks to devour, kill, and destroy, will attack us. His primary weapons include lies, deception, isolation, despair, sin, and darkness. But take heart, we are not defenseless!

Watch, “Say What?!” to delve deeper into these big questions and timeless truths, and to learn to embrace the unshakable assurance that comes from knowing God is for us. This week’s sermon walks us through an appropriate response to “these things,” how to step out in faith with the right mindset and heart posture, and which counter-attacks thwart the enemy’s tactics most effectively.
